I don’t get why we as fans put up with SM. I don’t get it. As music goes, it’s probably the most generic out of the Big 3, and they don’t even try to hide the fact that their artists are more like puppets with little-to-no creative control. They’ve seriously stopped putting effort into ramping up their music, merely relying on the devotion (or blind consumerism) of the fanbase to pull through - SuJu’s had the same musical concept since 2009, SNSD’s “The Boys” is pretty mediocre and probs wouldn’t have done well if it weren’t performed by SNSD, I personally don’t think ”Sherlock” was as good a comeback as “Lucifer”, etc. EXO is the closest we’ve gotten to a genuinely new sound but oh hey two months in and we’re already running those artists to the ground. Which brings me to my next problem with SM - as far as treatment goes, SM is probably the most ruthless, as is seen through the amount of times we have to worry about our stars’ health, exhaustion, and serious injuries. I don’t even want to go into what they did to Han Geng. And then the way they handle their business in general just sucks. They don’t try to hide the fact that they view their artists as money-making machines. Look at the way they shaft certain bands (i.e. f(x)) they deem are not as successful instead of putting effort into actually improving those bands/giving these bands better songs. They blatantly give some bands better products to work with than others and then make the fans pay for it all. They promise the fans something and don’t give it to them (SS4 World Tour with a North American stop? loljk), and when they do give it to them sometimes it’s not as good quality as what they give to others - look at the way they handled SMTown LA this year, with its last minute notification/preparation, overpriced tickets, and a shorter setlist.

The only reason we are still sucked into SM are their artists, because their artists are wonderful talented human beings with great personalities. And that is no coincidence - it’s clear that SM has marketed their musicians that well thinking we’d focus purely on them and not see what SM is doing behind the scenes. SM’s success revolves mainly around their ability to choose/train fantastic artists, but even then SM manages to screw that by working these artists until they literally cannot take it anymore and they leave. And the only reason SM is able to pull it off and still be successful is because they’ve become this huge unstoppable machine that everyone’s already bought into, and it seems like we as fans don’t do anything about it. I understand that it’s not like we can just quit the fandom and stop supporting the artists themselves (even if they do only get a small fraction of the money we pour into them) but being so complacent to SM’s antics is becoming more and more infuriating to me. I want things to change, I need things to change, and as a fan and as a consumer I don’t like the idea of not exerting any sort of power in this producer-consumer relationship.

It’s funny how we like guys from across the world who doesn’t even know we exists. We think about them all the time. We search videos of them on youtube, we search images of them on google and saves them on our computer and makes their pictures our screen backgrounds.

It’s amazing how happy they make us feel. People laugh at us for being this way. I don’t care how they think it’s stupid. I just feel sorry for them for not having this amazing feeling we feel.

Honestly I don’t know how I lived before this.  My life must have been so empty.  On my more morbid days I think maybe I’m just a psychopath and am incapable of feeling any emotions for the people around me, and so I had to latch onto something further removed from myself.  But on most days, I see how much happiness they’ve given us, and how we’ve created our own cohesive community of fans here.  It is an amazing feeling to love someone, even if they don’t specifically love you back.  We support them through the ups and downs and we watch them grow and we feel along with them.  They’re not just idols, you see.  And just as much as we support them, they support us and inspire us.

did SME just decide one day “hey let’s create a band of 12 of the most sweetest, hardworking, loving, and talented boys we can find and make everyone fall in love with them and when we have all of the fans within our grasps we’ll fucking work them to the bone it’ll be great”
